Senna Plus Capsul 400mg can be harmful to health

KUALA LUMPUR, Tues: The public has been advised not to buy and use a traditional product called Senna Plus Capsule 400mg as it can endanger health.
The Health Ministry’s Pharmaceutical Services’ senior director, Eisah A.Rahman, said the product contains the scheduled poison Sibutramine and is not allowed for medicines classified as traditional medicines.
“Registration of the product has been cancelled by the Drug Control Authority at its 219th meeting on Aug 27,” she said in a statement here today.
The registration for the product is held by Winson Health Product Marketing and the manufacturer is TST Packaging Sdn Bhd.
Eisah said consumers should not use traditional products that contain Sibutramine as its can cause serious health effects like high blood prerssure and other cardiovascular complications if not properly monitored.
She said there were several products that were registered with the Drug Control Authority which contained Sibutramine and all of them had undergone evaluation to ensure they were safe, effective and quality products.
“Medicine that has Sibutramine can only be supplied by doctors or be bought at pharmacies with a doctor’s prescription,” she said.
Eisah advised anyone who had stock of Senna Plus Capsule 400mg to cease it’s sale, distribution and use immediately.
She also reminded sellers that possession for its sale was against the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984.
Individuals who committed an offence under the regulation can be fined up to RM25,000 or three years’ jail or both for subsequent offence.
Companies that commit the offence can be fined up to RM50,000 for the first offence and fined up to RM100,000 for subsequent offence, she said. — BERNAMA Pandangan anda dihargai
